The Community 6 of concerned residents, Surfrider, Sunshine Coast, Friends of Yaroomba (FOY), Development Watch (DW), Coolum Residents Association (CRA), Sunshine Coast Environment Council (SCEC) and Organisation Sunshine Coast Association of Residents (OSCAR) and many community members across the coast are very concerned about the proposed intense residential/mixed use and wave pool development at Coolum West on the Maroochy floodplain at Coolum West.
The developer knows that under the SEQ Regional Plan 2017 the residential development and shopping centre are prohibited development on this site which is outside the urban footprint.
We understand the developer is going to seek a Priority Development Area (PDA) declaration under the Economic Development Act 2012, in an attempt to override the many State and Council Planning constraints on this site, including flooding and many other environmental concerns.
